Penny Dreadful spinoff City of Angels has officially been cancelled after one season.
The fantasy drama, which was set in 1938 Los Angeles 50 years after the events of the original Penny Dreadful series , has been cancelled by Showtime after its first run concluded earlier this year, reports Variety.
"Showtime has decided not to move forward with another season of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels", the network said in a statement. "We would like to thank executive producers John Logan, Michael Aguilar and the entire cast and crew for their outstanding work on this project."

The drama starred Game of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer as a supernatural demon named Magda, who had the ability to take on different forms. She often manifested herself as political aide Alex Malone, German housewife Elsa Branson and gang member Rio to get her own way.
Daniel Zovatto and Nathan Lane starred as police officers Tiago Vega and Lewis Michener, who became embroiled in a sprawling case surrounding a shocking murder, which explored the history of Los Angeles and the events leading up to the Second World War.
The show also starred Penny Dreadful's Rory Kinnear, Shadowhunters' Dominic Sherwood, Star Trek: Discovery's Ethan Peck, Scrubs star Kerry Bishé and Rambo: Last Blood actress Adriana Barraza.
Natalie previously described her City of Angels role as "a delicious kind of thrill", praising her "ultimate agent of chaos" character.

"She's very cynical about human nature and in the very first episode she explains her perspective – 'I give human beings a choice, but they choose time and time again to be seduced by the more base, selfish roles'. Her argument is that mankind is its own worst enemy," she said.
"One of the big philosophical questions the series poses is whether mankind is innately selfish and prejudiced, or whether there is something fundamentally good about being a human being."
Penny Dreadful: City of Angels aired on Showtime in the US and on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
