Warning: The article below contains major spoilers for the most recent episode of Game of Thrones, 'The Door'.

Game of Thrones viewers are still upset after THAT Hodor twist in this week's episode 'The Door', and now showrunners on the HBO drama have apologised.

Well, sort of. David Benioff and DB Weiss appeared in a sketch on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to say sorry for all the people who are sure to shout "Hodor" every time you walk through a door from now on.

"We'd like to apologise for Sunday's episode. Not for killing Hodor: we kill a lot of the main characters. We've killed 739 of the main characters so far," they said.

"We're sorry for all the idiots who from now on will be shouting "Hodor" every time you go through a door.

"We forgot how annoying people can be - that's our bad."

It was revealed this week that Kristian Nairn's character Willis got the nickname Hodor following the fateful moment where he was killed by the White Walkers' army of the dead while 'holding the door' for Bran Stark and Meera Reed to escape.

After Bran – in a past vision – warged into his loyal friend on hearing Meera's cries for help echoing from the present day, creating a link between Hodor in the past and present that imprinted on his mind to devastating effect.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO next Sunday (May 29) at 9pm, and airs Monday (May 30) on Sky Atlantic in the UK. Watch a teaser below:
