This article contains MAJOR spoilers for Game of Thrones' season six episode 'Homeward Bound', which airs in the UK tonight (May 2) at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.

It isn't shocking to hear that Ramsay Bolton went on a killing spree in the latest episode of Game of Thrones

But on his own family? Even we had to gasp.

Last night, Ramsay made sure his place on the throne wasn't threatened by his baby half-brother when he stabbed his own father in the heart and unleashed the dogs on his stepmother and her newborn baby.

Iwan Rheon, who plays Ramsay, compared the character's latest murderous rage to "totalitarian dictators".

"It shows a level of ambition we've not yet seen," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"His problem solving is quite basic. It's very similar to how a lot of how totalitarian dictators solve their problems by getting rid of anybody in their way, with a very Stalin-y way of doing it."

Game of Thrones' Kit Harington only has one thing to say about THAT Jon Snow twist: "Sorry!"

Rheon went on to suggest that Ramsay killing his family wasn't calculated but an instinctive reaction to the possibility of losing his position on the throne.

The actor explained: "His stepmother gives birth to a baby boy, and that's alarm bells right there, and his father's warned him [about his uncertain place in the family after losing his bride Sansa Stark]. Instead of maybe trying to wait and see, it's, 'You have to go, mate, sorry'.

"It's not calculated, it's reactionary," Rheon added. "And it has an effect on him, which he didn't expect."

Game of Thrones returns to screens in the US on HBO on Sunday (May 8) at 9pm. Sky Atlantic airs the show in the UK.
