It looks like Game of Thrones' first official preview of season six finally gives us some answers about the fate of Jon Snow.

The solemn 40-second clip opens with previously-aired footage of Snow (Kit Harington) standing atop a snowy landscape, as an ominous prophecy is spoken.

The voice of the Three-Eyed Raven - now played by Max von Sydow - says: "We watch. We listen. And we remember. The past is already written. The ink is dry."

Sharp cuts then look back on all of the tragedies that have befallen the Stark family - Ned's beheading, the Red Wedding and the betrayal of Jon Snow - as the returning Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) makes a dire warning.

"They have no idea what's going to happen," he seethes.

Bran Stark's closing quote  seemingly indicates that the supernaturally gifted boy will have a major presence in the episodes ahead - after sitting out season five.

What to Read Next

With an extended focus on Kit Harington, this clip notably seems to be the most solid proof yet that Jon Snow will live on somehow despite being slain by his fellow Night's Watchmen in the season five finale, although it's worth bearing in mind that in the books, Bran's visions have a habit of sending his spirit into the past.

Harington was spotted near Game of Thrones' Belfast script readthrough over the summer, and has also been snapped on-set in recent weeks.

Game of Thrones season 6: Everything we know so far from plot spoilers to premiere date

Aside from hopefully answering some lingering cliffhangers (Is Arya really blind? Is Myrcella dead? How can Daenerys escape the Dothraki horde?), season six will also introduce important new characters played by Richard E Grant, Ian McShane and Pilou Asbæk.

Game of Thrones returns in the spring to HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK.
