Calling all Virgin River fans: season eight is now in production! The start of filming was celebrated by the series' lead star Alexandra Breckenridge, who shared an image on Instagram announcing that season eight was under way. Captioned "Virgin River... 💜🌈💨", the picture was of Breckenridge with her co-star and on-screen love interest Martin Henderson, together on set.
Described by IMDb users as a "good wholesome" and "very drama-filled" show, excited Virgin River fans flooded the comment section of Breckenridge's post celebrating the news.
"Oh yesss. Cannot wait for season eight!! (and nine, 10, 11, etc)," said one fan. "Hopefully Netflix will not keep us waiting as long as season seven."

Another said: "I always watch the new seasons so quickly. Now patiently waiting for the next one feels so long. Can't wait for season eight." A third added: "You are the reason I pay for Netflix."
Season eight will see Henderson also step behind the scenes to direct. The story will pick up from season seven's dramatic end, which saw Breckenridge's Mel step into motherhood as her newborn son was transported to the NICU having been born with a heart issue.

"I am excited to see Mel as a mother," Breckenridge told Tudum of the upcoming storyline. "I think we've anticipated that moment for far too long. It should be sweet. I'm sure it'll be harder than she thinks it's going to be."
Mel and Jack's son starts off the upcoming season under the care of one of the world's leading pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons, Eli (Austin Nichols), who is also Mel's ex.
Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Tudum that the brand new season will centre on "the challenges that raising a child with special physical needs puts on their marriage and how challenging it is to be new parents, much less new parents in such a high-stakes situation".
