It looks like Game of Thrones will come to an end in its eighth season, at least according to producers' current plans.
HBO president Michael Lombardo revealed at the TCAs press tour today (July 30) that showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss have a firm plan on when to end the fantasy series.
Alexander Siddig thinks he knows the secret to Game of Thrones' success
"I think seven seasons and out has never been the conversation; the question is how much beyond the seventh season are we going to do," Lombardo explained.
"[The producers are] feeling like there's probably two more years after six. I would love for them to change their minds, but that's what we're looking at right now."
An eighth season end date doesn't necessarily mean that other Game of Thrones projects are out of the realm of possibility at HBO.

"I would be open to anything [the producers] want to do," Lombardo insisted. "There's enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel… At this point, all the focus is on figuring out the next few years with this show."
George RR Martin – whose A Song of Ice and Fire book series is the basis of Game of Thrones - recently hinted at a possible movie to wrap up lingering storylines beyond the end to the episodic series.
Meanwhile, Game of Thrones dominated this year's Emmy Award nominations with nods in 24 different categories.
