More bad news for US presidential candidate Donald Trump - his television partner NBC is actively distancing itself from his political views.

Trump has been in the news this week over Spanish-language station Univision dropping his Miss USA pageant from its television schedule.

The network cited disapproval over his condemnation of immigration, leading Trump to publicly threaten "a major lawsuit" on grounds of defamation.

His Celebrity Apprentice broadcasting partner NBC is also setting the record straight on its own relationship with the Republican candidate.

"Donald Trump's opinions do not represent those of NBC, and we do not agree with his positions on a number of issues, including his recent comments on immigration," the network said in a press statement.

NBC is currently still scheduled to broadcast this year's Miss USA on July 12, and has also vowed to continue with a new season of Celebrity Apprentice.

That season could potentially proceed without an on-camera role for Trump, given that his presence on the network would have to be reduced due to equal-time restrictions.

Trump has made quite a few enemies since launching his presidential bid earlier this month.

Cher, Neil Young and Stephen Colbert are just a few of the celebrities to have openly mocked his bid for high office in 2016.
