Kaitlyn Bristowe has admitted that she had reservations about this season's Bachelorette twist.
During the two-part premiere, Bristowe and Britt Nilsson had to compete for the votes of the 25 male suitors for the opportunity to be the Bachelorette.
The announcement drew heavy criticism when it was made in March, with many people describing the twist as sexist.
Bristowe was declared the winner last night (May 19), but speaking to People, she explained how she eventually came to terms with the face-off.
"I definitely had my concerns and questions," she said. "But I don't think I would have gone through with it if I thought it was just sexist. At the end of the day, it is still a TV show.
"I just kept reminding myself, 'You're on The Bachelorette. In what world is that real and what message is that promoting, too?'

"[The competition] was just another way of doing it. I just kept trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel. That's what mattered to me."
Tuesday's episode in the US also saw Brady Toops quit during the first rose ceremony to pursue Nilsson, not long after the guys' vote was revealed.
"My heart is with the woman who left a couple hours ago," he told Bristowe.
The Bachelorette continues Mondays on ABC.
