The White Lotus season 3 star Patrick Schwarzenegger has defended the show's new theme tune.
The themes for the first two seasons featured the same eerie wailing vocals over instrumentation representing each season's location – Hawai'i then Sicily, respectively.
The season 3 theme tune goes for a different vibe, dropping the notable wails, and it's left some fans upset.

Schwarzenegger admitted that "it's a lot different than what probably fans are used to from the iconic songs from the first two seasons", but stated that he loves the soundtrack and opening sequence (via Radio Times).
"It's something that I loved so much about the previous seasons, how upbeat it was and it was so iconic, and yet [composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer] wanted to push the envelope and make it different this time," he added. "It's daunting and darker and deeper."

Tapia de Veer previously explained his inspiration for the season 3 theme, saying that he wanted to recreate the vibe of TikTok cat videos.

"I think that the best song I heard in the last few years that I can remember is people harmonising to a cat on TikTok," he said.
"There's a cat, and somebody put some piano and then some girls started harmonising, and then there's all these versions harmonising this cat. It's super moving and so spontaneous."
Meanwhile, Schwarzenegger defended himself against "frustrating" nepotism claims.
"They’re not seeing that I’ve had ten years of acting classes, put on [high] school plays every week, worked on my characters for hours on end or the hundreds of rejected auditions I’ve been on," he said.
The White Lotus airs on Sky Atlantic and streams on Sky Go and NOW in the UK, with new season 3 episodes every Monday. The show airs on HBO and streams on Max in the US.
