Emily in Paris star Lucas Bravo has revealed he's "questioned" whether he'll return for season 5.

The actor is best known for playing chef Gabriel in the hit Netflix series, a love interest of lead Emily Cooper (played by Lily Collins).

In a new interview with IndieWire, Bravo admitted that storylines and choices for his character made him think about his future on the show.

"The 'sexy chef' was very much part of me in Season 1 and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take," he said. "I’ve never been so far away from him.

"It kind of became not fun for me to shoot or to see a character I love so much and brought me so much, being slowly turned into guacamole," he added. "I really grew apart from him."

Bravo said he has tried to voice his concerns and suggest changes for Gabriel but that there's limited creativity when it comes to the script.

"I tried for seasons to bring nuances but we don’t have much liberty on set," he said. "We cannot change a word or an emotion. They know what they want and we just have to comply."

He continued: "It makes me question if I want to be part of Season 5... because my contract ends at Season 4. I really want to see if Gabriel gets back to his fun, cheeky, playful, alive self. Because three seasons playing melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost is not fun anymore."

Despite his frustrations with his character's current arc, the Ticket to Paradise star makes it clear he's grateful for everything the show has done for him professionally.

"But I love the show, it started everything for me," he said. "I love the show and the people in it. With saying that, I feel like I am not being nice or grateful, but when you love something you want it to be…you want the best version of it.

"I’m not going to lie, I’ve been frustrated with the direction by character is taking. But we’ll see where it goes. The show is not over."

The season four part two finale saw Emily in Rome romancing a new beau and Agence Grateau client Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini). After agreeing to do business with the firm, Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) asks Emily to stay in the Italian capital to head up their new office.

When Gabriel learns the news of Emily's foreign promotion, he makes to go find her and win her back, but will he succeed?

Season 5 – officially renewed in September – has confirmed that Emily will remain in Rome a little longer, where audiences will find out her fate.

Emily in Paris seasons 1-4 are available now on Netflix.
