The next season of Bones could be the series's final one.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Fox executives said that the network isn't planning beyond a possible season 11 at present, with Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz in contract discussions for one extra season.

"I think that it's likely to be a one-season conversation at this point, which I think makes them more comfortable and I think probably makes sense for the network as well," said chairman Gary Newman (via Zap2it).

Dana Walden added: "We have started conversations with them and we're very hopeful that Bones will return.

"We can't announce it today because deals aren't closed, but we love the show. It's been so meaningful to the studio and nothing would make us happier than doing another year."

Deschanel, who is currently pregnant with her second child, said last month that she would be keen to work on an 11th season of the show, saying: "I'm up for it... I feel like there's still more to tell."

Bones returns on Thursday, March 26 on Fox in the US.
