Major Emily in Paris season 4 spoilers follow.
If we thought season three of Emily in Paris delivered a cliffhanger for the open-ended Netflix ages, the season four finale gave a whole new meaning to unresolved storylines.
The episode title tells us 'All Roads Lead to Rome' and that includes one for hot chef Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), who seeks out Mindy (Ashley Park) to get the Rome address of Emily's (Lily Collins) new apartment. It's part of a former family palazzo, which we're told is "a little small" – perhaps by palazzo standards, as opposed to humdrum rental standards.
In the final scenes of the season, our fashion-forward heroine starts to change her handle on Instagram, from @EmilyinParis to @Emilyin…. Rome? Maybe. We never find out, because Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) comes knocking.
Then, Emily does maybe the most out-of-character thing so far in 40 episodes: she leaves her mandated Samsung phone in her apartment before the new couple leave for another Roman Holiday-inspired Vespa ride around the city.
With that tantalising ending, will Emily in Paris be back for a season five? Or even return as a rebranded version Emily in Rome?
What to Read Next
There's no word yet. However, there have been some promising hints that more of the show and Agence Grateau's antics could be coming.
For one thing, Lily Collins herself is very keen for the story to continue, telling Digital Spy she "hopes" there's more as she would love the cast to have the opportunity to explore more of Italy.
She said: "Rome is insanely stunning, and I love it so much. But I would love to go to the countryside, or maybe the coast and experience that.
"See where it goes with Marcello. But also have all of her French co-workers and Mindy come back out, because it would be so fun to see them all experiencing Italy for the first time in a way that I experienced Paris in season one."
The show's creator Darren Star has also said the show could run on, telling Deadline ahead of the release of season four: "I definitely think the show has a life beyond next season. There’s no end in sight until everybody feels like it’s time to end."
Then, in a peculiar twist, an auction at this year's Cannes Film Festival featured an opportunity to be a walk-on role on season five of Emily in Paris – even though the follow-up season has not officially been greenlit yet.
At the amfAR event hosts Winnie Harlow and Paris Jackson announced the guest role in the upcoming season, which they said would kick off filming in mid-2025. The gig went for €250,000 to the winning bidder, Variety reported at the time.
So while Netflix hasn't officially confirmed whether another season will be coming, they have an entire fanbase – and one high-paying walk-on guest star – who certainly hope this is the case.
Emily in Paris seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix.
