Director Susanne Bier (The Undoing) has reunited with Nicole Kidman for a brand new show, The Perfect Couple, out now on Netflix.

During an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, the creator said that working with the Hollywood star again was "wonderful", before opening up about how the experience brought the opportunity for Kidman to take on a contrasting role to the one we saw in the 2020 HBO hit.

"It was also fun doing something where she's different – The Undoing, [Kidman's character was] a very strong woman who eventually showed all her vulnerabilities, and this is also a pretty strong woman [in The Perfect Couple], but this is also a comedic character," Bier (whose projects also include The Night Manager and Bird Box) explained.

"And it was a lot of fun doing that with Nicole," she added. "It was generally a lot of fun being with the cast, when we can push all the comedic buttons."

The Perfect Couple is a murder mystery, which sees a wealthy family put under the microscope after a body is discovered on their property on the eve of a wedding. Nicole Kidman plays the soon-to-be mother-in-law Greer Garrison Winbury, also a famous novelist.

She's at the head of the family and is especially protective over her sons – all about appearances, show boss Susanne Bier explained that Kidman's "perfect" and "polished" image was intentional, sign-posting that Greer Garrison Winbury is "a woman in control".

The limited series boasts six episodes and, as secrets are unearthed, every character becomes a suspect.

The Perfect Couple is available on Netflix now.
