Young Sheldon cast members have shared an unexpected reunion ahead of the series’ new spin-off.

The show – itself a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory – wrapped up its seven-season run in May, and a new show called Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage has since been in the works.

As filming gets underway on the upcoming series, which focuses on Georgie Cooper (Montana Jordan) and Mandy McAllister (Emily Osment), stars Jordan and Raegan Revord, who plays Missy, have enjoyed a reunion with Lance Barber – aka George Cooper Sr.

Sharing a series of photos on her Instagram profile, including the snap of the trio, Revord wrote: “Very cutesy very mindful.”

According to TVLine, Barber is not due to make an appearance in the show, and was only visiting the show’s set.

Fans will remember that George Sr passed away in Young Sheldon’s final season after suffering a heart attack – though the death was expected given fans already knew that Sheldon’s father died when he was 14.

Opening up about the decision to air the death when they did, co-showrunner Steve Holland told TVLine: “We thought, ‘Is there a way to do it and still catch people off guard?’

“So the thought of doing it not even in the penultimate, but in the antepenultimate episode, might be a way we can still catch them off guard.

“George’s death was a huge part of Sheldon’s growth as a person. To deal with that death was important to Sheldon as a character, especially as he’s about to go off to Caltech.”

In other news, it was recently confirmed that Young Sheldon’s Will Sasso and Rachel Bay Jones will be reprising their roles as Mandy’s parents Jim and Audrey McAllister in Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage.

Young Sheldon airs on CBS in the US and E4 in the UK, while you can buy The Big Bang Theory complete boxset now on DVD and Blu-ray.
