Emily in Paris' Ashley Park has shared the awkward realisation that led to her romance with co-star Paul Forman.

Park, who plays Mindy Chen on the show, is currently in a real-life relationship with her on-screen boyfriend Forman (who plays Nicolas de Léon).

However, it wasn't always such a neat and tidy situation, as Park was determined that she would "never date an actor again".

"I would never fall for someone who looks that impeccable. So we were just friends. Very platonically, we would hang out," she told Cosmopolitan.

Later, when Park was invited by the International Medical Corps to volunteer with Ukrainian refugees in Poland, she asked Forman to accompany her.

"Fast-forward, we're filming one of our last scenes together, and he said, 'I am getting really attached to you.'"

Though she brushed off the feelings, Park's co-star Lily Collins noticed the chemistry and asked if something was going on between the pair.

"I told her, 'Lily, your disbelief in my growth is sad, because he's the exact type of guy that I said I wasn't going to go for,'" said Park. "'I told you, and so I really want you, as my friend, to believe me.'"

However, the actor then realised that Collins was right about her feelings towards Forman, and she had to admit that the couple were in love.

"I was like, oh my god, I've lied to my best friend. I really do like this guy. What do I do?" she explained. "So I had to do a little loss-of-dignity tour. I had to be like, 'Lily, everyone, we are so in love.' That was about two years ago."

Emily in Paris seasons 1-3 are streaming on Netflix. Season 4 part 1 premieres on Thursday, August 15, followed by season 4 part 2 on Thursday, September 12.
