Chris Colfer has denied that he is leaving the cast of Glee, following a Twitter hoax.

A tweet sent from the actor's verified Twitter account claimed that he had been "let go" from the FOX show.

"Due to personal issues, I have been let go from the cast of GLEE. Explanations will come shortly," it read.

However, Colfer's manager has since told The Hollywood Reporter that the star's account had been hacked, and confirmed that he will be back as Kurt Hummel for the sixth and final season of the show.

A spokesperson for Glee production company 20th Century Fox Television added: "We've been alerted that Chris Colfer's Twitter account has been hacked. Rumors of his dismissal from Glee could not be further from the truth.

"We love Chris and look forward to working with him again this season."
