Glee star Jayma Mays has revealed that her exit from the show was not her own decision.

The actress, who plays Emma Pillsbury, explained to Metro that her departure from the Fox series this season was the creators' choice.

Mays said: "It wasn't my choice. The creators decided to do it.

"Some other characters will also be leaving this season. It's very sad to be going but I understand why they do it."

Mays also opened up about the loss of her co-star Cory Monteith, who passed away this July.

"It's been really hard," she said. "We just filmed his memorial episode and it was a very difficult thing to do. It's been a very sad and difficult year for everyone."
