The Dog Soldiers star will play Conan Doyle's creation Lestrade in the CBS drama's second season.
The 49-year-old's casting - announced by the actor on Twitter - follows the news that Rhys Ifans will appear in season two as Mycroft Holmes, brother of Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller).

Elementary's season two premiere will see Sherlock and Watson (Lucy Liu) head to London, to look into one of the genius detective's past investigations.
Sean - son of Doctor Who's Jon Pertwee - has previously appeared in episodes of Luther, Camelot and Skins.
