Donald Trump has expressed hopes that US President Barack Obama, Tom Cruise and Clint Eastwood will compete on The Celebrity Apprentice in the future.

Trump predicted to Parade that Obama would do well on the NBC series, despite having criticized the leader quite often over the last few years.

"I'd love to see Tom Cruise on the show and my friend Clint Eastwood," he commented.

The mogul added: "There are many political people I could choose. I think Barack Obama would do fantastically well!"

Trump's latest Celebrity Apprentice season features the returns of some of the show's most popular competitors, including Bret Michaels, Dennis Rodman and Gary Busey.

The Celebrity Apprentice boss said of the new cast: "We went by the great response we received to past contestants like Bret Michaels, Trace Adkins and Dennis Rodman.
