The renaming of Marvel's Daredevil series has prompted a showrunner of the original Netflix series to accuse Disney for running an "old scam".
Netflix's live-action adaptation of the Man Without Fear's misadventures – simply named Daredevil – was cancelled after three seasons, before a reboot was picked up for streaming service Disney+ under the title Daredevil: Born Again.
The new name – set to see the return of original star Charlie Cox – has reportedly frustrated some of the crew who worked on the original Netflix series, leading to season 1 showrunner Steven DeKnight to respond.

One Twitter/X user, who claimed to have worked on Netflix's Marvel shows including Daredevil and Jessica Jones, posted that crew members only received "vacation pay on season three shows", meaning that pay was only upped if a show had passed its third season.
He then alleged that, contractually speaking, Daredevil's reboot to Born Again would effectively take the rights of workers "back to season one IATSE contract terms", calling the move a "f**king scam".
He tagged DeKnight in his posts, prompting the showrunner to respond.
DeKnight posted by also describing the renaming as a "scam", writing: "It's an old Disney scam where they slightly rename a series to reset contract terms back to first season. Needs to be addressed by all the guilds/unions and crushed!"
Digital Spy has reached out to Disney+ for comment.

The Daredevil: Born Again reboot was announced at San Diego Comic-Con by Marvel boss Kevin Feige in 2022.
The 18-episode series will see Daredevil's continued integration into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and a further supporting role in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Originally slated to premiere in early 2024, filming for the Daredevil: Born Again has been paused due to the WGA writers' strike.
