Emily in Paris season 4 potential release date: When will it return?
Emily in Paris season four is thankfully on the way, as it got the green light at the same time as season three.
Lily Collins – who of course is the face of the series, playing the American in Paris Emily Cooper – shared the news with her followers in an Instagram post.
"Woke up early to give you some VERY exciting news," she captioned a photo of herself wearing a very on-brand pyjama set. "Emily in Paris is back for Season 3… AND wait for it, Season 4!!!!!
"I can't tell if Emily would love or hate this announcement outfit but she'd be screaming either way. Truly love you all, thanks so much for the incredible support. Seriously cannot wait for more. Merci Beaucoup!!…"
But production on the new season hasn't been smooth sailing. Season four was meant to start filming in late 2023, but the writers' strike in Hollywood delayed this slightly.
On January 19, Netflix announced that production had begun on season four. The Twitter/X account posted: "BONJOUR SEASON FOUR. Emily in Paris is back in production."
It also shared a photo of Lily Collins holding up the script for Emily in Paris season four's first episode at the table read-through.
It was reported back in 2022 that Emily in Paris season three and season four were being filmed back-to-back, but this table read photo confirms that this wasn't the case.
Collins shared the photo to her Instagram and wrote: "Did someone say Saison Quatre?! Finally reunited with my @emilyinparis fam back in Paris and it feels so good. Although, I may need to brush up on my selfie skills for Emily's sake..."
Filming will be well underway at this point, because the team will want to get everything wrapped up before the summer. As the Olympics and Paralympics are being held in Paris this year, all film and TV shoots in the city will be banned from June until September.
There were fears that the delays meant we wouldn't see Emily's next Parisian adventure until 2025. Well, fear not.
Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos recently told The Hollywood Reporter that season four of Emily in Paris will return in the second half of this year, alongside new seasons of shows like Squid Game, The Night Agent and Cobra Kai. In terms of an actual release date though, we just don't know yet.
However, both seasons two and three have previously dropped in full in December, right in time for a holiday binge-watch. So we wouldn't be too surprised if season four follows suit and we get a December 2024 release.
We'll keep you posted with further details as soon as we get them – promise.
Emily in Paris season 4 cast: Who will be back?
Emily in Paris would not be Emily in Paris without, well, Emily in Paris – so obviously Lily Collins is involved.
With so much up in the air story-wise, and many questions that need answering, we'd need to catch up with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), Camille (Camille Razat) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) in order to get a satisfying resolution to season three's final twist.
Em's best friend and roommate Mindy (played by Ashley Park) will also be back, which is a relief considering Emily is going to need her gal pal as she's still got some tough decisions to make.
Park's return to the show was delayed, as in December she was diagnosed with septic shock, which stemmed from tonsillitis and left her in a critical condition.
In January, Park revealed that while her recovery meant she wasn't able to start work yet, she had joined her co-stars in the French capital, in an Instagram post that included a sweet photo of her alongside Collins.
She wrote: "I'm sorry for the delay in responses, just wanted to update that I was medically cleared to fly after responding to treatments, and am now recovering and resting in Paris where I was greeted with this incredible warm welcome from loved ones and my Emily in Paris fam.
"Thank you to @netflix and @emilyinparis for their genuine kindness and gracious patience as I wait to be medically cleared to work... I couldn't be more excited to join them all on set for season 4. I promise I'm breathing through this all and taking as much care of myself as I can to get back into fighting shape."
With Emily's workaholic attitude, it's also likely that her boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) and colleagues Julien (Samuel Arnold) and Luc (Bruno Gouery) should be making more than just an appearance. In fact, we need to find out what Julien's future at the company – and his friendship with Emily – is going to look like.
"Emily's attitude about work or her competitive nature, it's certainly affected the work culture at Sylvie's company and I think Julien feels sidelined a little bit because Emily’s always about being the loudest voice in the room," creator Darren Star said (via The Wrap).
"I think that's something that really offends Julien in a sense, because I feel like he does get steamrolled by Emily. Emily's by no means a perfect character and I think Emily has to be more graceful in terms of work, but I think she's done some damage that we're going to see the fallout from in season four with Julien."
There's every chance that we'll also see an introduction of some new characters, whether that be (another) new love interest for Emily or some other rivals in the marketing world.
And with Camille's future up in the air, we may also see more of artist Sofia (Melia Kreiling) who she had an affair with before discovering her pregnancy.
Emily in Paris season 4 plot: What is going to happen?
Let's hope it's as dramatic as season three's finale. After years of will they/won't they for Emily and up-and-coming chef Gabriel, the path finally seemed clear for them to get together.
That is if you can overlook the fact that the restaurateur would be married to Camille right now, had she not had the gumption to call it as she saw it, announcing to the congregation that her man was in love with her best friend.
THEN, to make things all the more complicated, Gabriel performed the ultimate mic drop in telling Emily that Camille was pregnant right before the credits rolled. So now they have to figure out how exactly they're going to navigate this new complication.
That's not to mention what's going to happen to heartbroken Alfie, who had this bombshell dropped on him in front of everyone at the wedding.
Will he come back to fight for Emily too? Lucien Laviscount has already spoken about what he hopes will happen for Alfie in the next season. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said: "I'd like Alfie to kind of take a little bit more of a stand within the company with Antoine, that'd be cool.
"Maybe have a little bit of a speaking to with the good ole Nicolas, I think that that'd be quite a nice little thing to play with within the business, the two businesses kind of fighting off each other.
"I personally, as me, I need closure on certain things, whatever that might look like. So I guess with Alfie and Emily, whether it be closure or a friendship or whatever, to explore that? Because I know it's been explored [a little], but I think their relationship is different than what Gabriel and Emily's was.
"So it'd be interesting to explore that maybe. But, like I say, I'm all in for whatever."
Then of course there's Mindy, who has reconnected with a super-rich ex-boyfriend who has already proven himself to be a bit of a handful, trying to get in the way of her friendship with Emily and being possessive.
What will he think when it comes to her preparation for the Eurovision Song Contest (yup... this is going to Eurovision, baby!)
Star has teased an overall theme for the season, with the showrunner telling Deadline: "Season three was about making choices.
"I think season four is about how to balance business and toxic relationships, because that’s going to be happening with a lot of our characters."
We also know that the show will go international in its fourth season, with a visit to another iconic European city, as Collins revealed at Netflix's TUDUM event last year.
"We have more fun, more fashion and of course more drama in store," she said. "While Emily’s heart will always remain true to Paris, her life takes an unexpected twist this season.
"Don’t be surprised to find her on a Roman holiday." So we'll be trading in 'la belle vie' for 'la dolce vita', if only for a spell.
Emily in Paris season 4 trailer: Where can I watch it?
Unfortunately, it's still too early to see any footage from season four – they haven't finished filming it yet!
The trailer for the current season was released three weeks prior to its launch date, so we'd expect something similar to happen next time around. You'll hear it from us first if there's any news.
