Koala Man, the new animation starring X-Mens Hugh Jackman, has landed its UK release date.

The Disney+ series, which is being produced by Rick and Morty showrunner Justin Roiland, will premiere on the streaming service on January 9.

As well as Jackman, the stacked cast includes co-creator Michael Cusack, Sarah Snook (Succession), Jermaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows) and Demi Lardner.

The plot synopsis for the original series reads as follows: “Koala Man follows middle-aged dad Kevin and his titular not-so-secret identity, whose only superpower is a burning passion for following rules and snuffing out petty crime in the town of Dapto.

“Though it may seem like any other Australian suburb, forces of evil both cosmic and man-made lie in wait to pounce on unsuspecting Daptonians. On a quest to clean up his hometown, and often roping his frustrated family into his adventures, Koala Man stands at the ready.

“He’ll do whatever it takes to defeat villainous masterminds, supernatural horrors, or worse: jerks who don’t take their rubbish bins down on the proper days.”

Jackman, most famous for his role as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, will be returning to his iconic role for Deadpool 3 alongside Ryan Reynolds.

The actor, who last played the character in 2017’s Logan, explained his decision to return to AP Entertainment, before hinting at how he’d interact with Reynolds’ character: “It's been five years and I'd really never thought I'd come back and I'm really, really excited about it.

“I can tell you that I started back at the gym and I'm eating a lot – and I feel bad for the cast of The Music Man [his Broadway musical] for how many protein shakes I'm having – but it's a lot of fun.

“He's definitely angrier, sort of grumpy, and he's gonna take a lot of free shots at Ryan Reynolds. Physically, that is,” he concluded.

Koala Man will premiere on Disney+ on January 9.
