The live-action Blade Runner series, which sees Ridley Scott return to the franchise, has been given the go ahead from Amazon Studios.
Blade Runner 2099, which is a continuation of the two films, will see Scott serve as an executive producer on the show and Silka Luisa joining as a showrunner.
In a statement announcing the news, Vernon Sanders, head of global television for Amazon Studios, said (via The Wrap): "The original ‘Blade Runner,’ directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time, and we’re excited to introduce ‘Blade Runner 2099'.

"Audiences first discovered Ridley Scott’s brilliant vision for ‘Blade Runner’ 40 years ago, and since then, it has become one of the most influential science-fiction films of all time," Alcon Entertainment co-CEOs and co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson added.
While there are currently few other details on what we can expect for the new show, Scott has previously confirmed an estimated length for the show.
Speaking to BBC Today, he revealed that the series will most likely be around 10 hours long.

The news comes at an exciting time for Blade Runner fans, following the release of a anime spin-off series.
Blade Runner: Black Lotus, which premiered on Adult Swim in November last year, takes place between the events of the 1982 original and 2017's Blade Runner 2049 in the year 2032.
The show boasts of an all-star cast including The Handmaid's Tale's Samira Wiley as Alani Davis, a fresh LAPD recruit, as well as Game of Thrones' Jessica Henwick as Elle, a female replicant created for a secret and unknown purpose.
