Christine Baranski has revealed that she had just finished a great day's work shooting season six of The Good Fight when she learned that the show was coming to an end.
The show, created by Robert King, Michelle King, and Phil Alden Robinson is a spin-off of The Good Wife and stars Baranski as Diane Lockhart, who is forced to start anew at a new law firm when she loses all of her savings.
The series will conclude later this year with the sixth season but in a new interview with TV Line, Baranski revealed how shocked she was to find out the news.
"I had finished a marvellous workday with John Slattery and Gary Cole – I didn't know what was coming. By the time I got home, Robert and Michelle called me and told me it was going to be the end. I was stunned. My heart dropped," Baranski said.
"I tried to be sanguine and understand the reasoning for it, but it was a loss of so many things: the consistency of the work, the marvellous group of people that constitute the show, the marvellous writing.
"I don't think I ever took for granted just how lucky I was to be on such a quality show. I started enjoying the work more than ever in my final few seasons."

Baranski said that the Kings wanted to end the show properly while they felt they still had narrative control. They didn't want to end a season by preparing for a new season only to find out the show was cancelled, which would have made for an unsatisfying end with characters "dangling without that proper push toward a solid narrative conclusion".
Still, it wasn't easy news to hear and the decision was made to end the show halfway through shooting season six, so Baranski was not expecting it at all.
"The hardest part was hearing, 'That's a series wrap on Christine Baranski', and then everyone gathering around and me addressing everybody with whom I had worked... It was very emotional. What I said to everybody was, 'I haven't processed this...' And I hadn't, because it happened rather abruptly," Baranski said.
"So it wasn't like I had a lot of time to take long walks and think about it and ruminate. But I'm sure at some point that will happen.
She continued: "I'm already tearing up. I think there's a lot of feeling there that has to be processed."
The Good Fight's sixth and final season will premiere on September 8 on Paramount+ in the US.
