The Boys season 3 saw the arrival of Supernatural star Jensen Ackles as America's first superhero, Soldier Boy, who certainly shook things up.
A lot of Soldier Boy's backstory was filled in by commercials and clips of films from before he was captured by Russians and held in a lab, but it turns out some of those clips were originally intended to be more.

Viewers saw a brief segment of Soldier Boy in the film Red Thunder, but, as Ackles told Entertainment Weekly, he shot "much more than just a fake promo. We filmed scenes."
Following fans' calls to release these unseen scenes, The Boys shared a longer scene on Twitter, which sees Soldier Boy being interrogated by a Soviet colonel, before the TNT Twins come along and kill him.

After being freed from the Russian lab by The Boys (including a temporarily superpowered Hughie and Butcher), Soldier Boy went on a rampage, trying to hunt down his widow Crimson Countess, before revealing to Homelander that he's in fact his father.
He explains that in the 1980s he made a donation to scientist Jonah Vogelbaum (John Doman), who created Homelander, for what he assumed was a genetics project. A year later, Homelander was born.

Butcher (Karl Urban) was handed a death sentence at the end of season three, when he discovered that the temporary Compound V he's been shooting up has done exactly what Annie (Erin Moriarty) warned it would, turned his brain into Swiss cheese, and he's been given months to live.
There has been speculation that Butcher's life potentially coming to an end could also spell the end for The Boys. The Amazon Prime series has been renewed for season four, but could that be the last we see of the supe-fighting gang?
