Stranger Things boss Shawn Levy has finally addressed speculation from fans about Will's sexuality following the release of season four.
The latest episodes saw Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Will (Noah Schnapp) split up from Mike (Finn Wolfhard) after the Byers moved to California from Hawkins – and people were quick to point out Will's seeming jealousy of Eleven and Mike when Mike came to visit.

This came after a scene in season three where during an argument about Eleven, Mike shouted at Will: "It's not my fault you don't like girls." But Levy told Weekly that this was about them being at different stages of puberty rather than sexual orientation.

However, in the latest season, Will and Mike had a deep chat that led Will to say: "Sometimes I think it's just scary to open up like that, to say how you really feel, especially to people you care about the most, because what if they don't like the truth?"
And discussing the future of Will's plotline, Levy said: "Without getting into where we go later in season 4 [Part 2], I guess I'll just say that there aren't many accidents on Stranger Things.
"There is clear intention and strategy and real thought given to each and every character. So, if you came away from Volume I feeling those bread crumbs of plot and character, it's probably no accident."

Schnapp has also previously addressed whether Will is gay. "I feel like they never really address it or blatantly say how Will is," Schnapp told Variety.
"I think that's the beauty of it, that it's just up to the audience's interpretation, if it's Will kind of just refusing to grow up and growing up slower than his friends, or if he is really gay."
Stranger Things season 4, part 2 will premiere on July 1 – streaming on Netflix.
