The Boys spin-off star exits to join Bond actor's thriller show

The Boys' new college series might take longer than expected to grace our screens after hitting another bump in its road to production.

Aimee Carrero has exchanged her leading role in the upcoming spin-off for a part in a new series starring James Bond's Christoph Waltz.

The actress will be boarding the Prime Video series, The Consultant, opposite Waltz and Nat Wolff, playing Wolff's fiancée, Patti.

The dark-comedy workplace thriller, based on the 2015 novel of the same name, is set to explore the complex, and often sinister, relationship between a boss and their employee. It will pose the question of how far will one go to get ahead, and to survive.

Keeping busy, Carrero has also secured herself a recurring role in the limited series The Offer, which will tell the story of the making of the cult movie The Godfather. Currently, the actress is also preparing for her role as Honey in the Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? play alongside Calista Flockhart and Star Trek's Zachary Quinto.

Another loss for The Boys' college spin-off will be their leading man, Shane Paul McGhie.

The duo had been cast last spring but it was only in September 2021 that the show was greenlit, with Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters signing as showrunners. Though the exact reasons for Carrero and McGhie's exits have not been made public, the lengthy process to production due to multiple delays and changes to scripts during the process may be contributory factors.

The Amazon Prime show is set to centre around a college for young-adult superheroes and was written by The Boys executive producer, Craig Rosenberg.

The Boys seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch in full on Amazon Prime Video. Season 3 will premiere on June 3.
