HBO has addressed claims that the cast and crew of Euphoria experienced a toxic and unsafe working environment during the filming of the show's second season.

Last month, The Daily Beast published a report on the behind-the-scenes environment of the show's second season, alleging that the cast and crew faced 15 to 17 working hour days and "hellish" night shoots, with tensions between actors and the show's director, Sam Levinson.

The publication also reported that background actors had made complaints to SAG-AFTRA, over "failure to provide them meals on time and refusing to let people use the bathroom".

In response to the allegations, HBO has now released a statement saying that the "well-being of cast and crew" is always a "top priority" and added that no formal inquiries have been raised.

"The well-being of cast and crew on our productions is always a top priority. The production was in full compliance with all safety guidelines and guild protocols," the HBO statement read (via Deadline).

"It's not uncommon for drama series to have complex shoots, and COVID protocols add an additional layer. We maintain an open line of communication with all the guilds, including SAG-AFTRA. There were never any formal inquiries raised."

The statement was published days after Euphoria broke another record, recording 6.6 million viewers for its finale and becoming HBO's second most-watched TV show behind Game of Thrones.

Euphoria's Barbie Ferreira has also recently addressed the speculation about the behind-the-scenes drama on the TV show following rumours that a tense relationship between her and Levinson led to her storming off set and her screen time being cut in half.

Speaking to Insider, she said: "I've seen so many different things and a lot of it is untrue and some of it's kind of like mundane little things.

"But I really think that the fans are really passionate and I do appreciate that because Euphoria has really impacted so many people.

"Sometimes, things take on a life of their own, and they're not rooted in the truth, but it's OK because I know it's just out of passion and out of curiosity and all that good stuff. And I signed up for it. So, I'll take it. I'll take the good and the bad."

Euphoria season one and two is now available to watch on HBO Max in the US and NOW in the UK.
