This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman has opened up about the possibility of developing a spin-off show following the time-tripping family drama's sixth and final season.
(Cue a flashforward scene that suggests to fans that they shouldn't get their hopes up.)
Ahead of the show's eagerly anticipated concluding chapter, which premiered in the US last night (January 4) before reaching the UK tomorrow (January 6), the writer-producer admitted that he's not keen on the idea of revisiting the Pearson siblings, and their parents, at any point in the future.

"Once you've seen the completion of season 6, the stories of these characters are told," he explained to Variety. "So there is no real spin-off because you kind of know everything.
"Is there another play for the show? I guess you'd never say never, but I don't see it. It's personal to me, and I don't see myself picking this thing back up."

Fogelman went on to note that his ambition in regards to the outing's future isn't to keep it going for the sake of it, but to wrap it up in a way that'll encourage individuals to look back on it decades down the line and remember it fondly.
"Nothing would make me happier than for people to go, 20 years from now, 'Can you believe all these writers worked on This Is Us?'," he said.

"And hopefully they'll say, 'There was this thing on TV once, and it was sad, but it was also about nice, flawed people who are trying to do the right thing. And despite that fact, it was able to get pretty popular for a moment of time.'
Fogelman finished by revealing that if that was the creative legacy of This Is Us, which stars Justin Hartley, Chrissy Metz, Sterling K. Brown, Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia, then he "would be satisfied".
This Is Us season 6 premiered last night (January 4) on NBC in the US. It will air on Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video in the UK from January 6.
