Suicide Squad sequel series Peacemaker reveals air date in first look trailer

HBO Max has unveiled the first look at The Suicide Squad's television spinoff Peacemaker, focused on John Cena's antihero character.

Along with the trailer, the streamer also revealed when the series – which is written and directed by James Gunn – will debut.

The show explores the continuing story of the character in the aftermath of Gunn's 2021 outing in the DC universe, The Suicide Squad.

If you haven't met Peacemaker before, his deal is that he "believes in peace at any cost", no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. And if you are caught up with his latest adventure, you know exactly what he's harbouring.

In addition to Cena, the series stars Danielle Brooks as Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Harcourt, Chukwudi Iwuji as Murn, Steve Agee as Economos and Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith.

The eight-episode series will premiere on January 13, 2022, with the first three episodes, followed by one episode weekly through February 17.

Gunn penned all eight episodes of Peacemaker and directed five, including the pilot and he served as an executive producer on the series, with Cena by his side.

Captioned alongside the artwork on Twitter, the show's official account teased: "Everybody's got their own style of peace... mine just happens to be the best."

Sharing the same poster on Instagram, they added in the character's voice: "This whole thing is a group effort that I carry on my shoulders."

Cena also shared the clip to his 13.3 million followers and tweeted: "The world needs peace and #PEACEMAKER is going to bring it."

Peacemaker premieres on HBO Max on January 13, 2022.
