Kim's Convenience star Paul Sun-Hyung Lee has landed a major role in Netflix's new Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action show.

Fans of the original animated Nickelodeon hit will quickly have guessed that he will play none other than Uncle Iroh.

The character is a retired Fire Nation general and the wise and nurturing mentor to his hot-headed nephew, Prince Zuko, who was previously announced as Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings' Dallas Liu.

Production on the show is due to begin soon, with Netflix also announcing that they will be using a virtual stage to bring to life the magical world of ATLA, the same type of technology used in The Midnight Sky, The Mandalorian and most for the upcoming How I Met Your Father.

Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who created the original show, were originally attached to the Netflix live-action remake, but announced in August 2020 they would depart the project due to creative differences, leaving fans to worry about the show, after the previous live-action remake – M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender – fared so poorly.

They have since announced they have struck a new deal with Nickelodeon and established Avatar Studios to create new animated series and films set within the Avatar universe.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is available to stream on Netflix.
