Shang Chi star Simu Liu is starring in Sesame Street to help introduce the show's first Asian-American muppet for their 'Neighbour Day'.

The special episode, titled 'See Us Coming Together', aims to "celebrate the rich diversity of Asian and Pacific Islander communities as part of Sesame Workshop's ongoing racial justice initiative", according to the official synopsis.

The new muppet is named Ji-Young, and she's a seven-year-old Korean-American girl, played by Sesame Street puppeteer Kathleen Kim.

On Monday (November 15), Sesame Street released the first song with Ji-Young in the Best Friends Band, alongside series regulars Elmo, Abby and Tamir. The song's message is that "anyone can be friends".

Shang Chi isn't the first Marvel star to make friends on the popular children's show. Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk in The Avengers) have all previously dropped in to see Elmo and his friends.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was released on Disney+ on November 12 for Disney+ Day.
