The Chair spoilers follow.

Sandra Oh might not have had a Russian assassin on her tail in The Chair, but that didn't stop her from running around like a headless chicken in the Netflix comedy-drama.

The Killing Eve and Grey's Anatomy star plays Ji-Yoon Kim, the first female and ethnic minority chair of a university English department who is struggling to keep her head above water. Between a fraught relationship with her daughter, the demands of her 9-5, and Bill being, well, Bill, there's never a dull moment.

Netflix's The Chair season 2 release date: When will it air?

As of February 2022, six months since the show's August 2021 release, there have been no reports regarding the future of The Chair.

Typically, Netflix waits around a month before deciding the show's fate of new shows, with audience reaction and viewership being a key indicator of whether they want to continue.

According to stats aggregate FlixPatrol, The Chair didn't last too long in the site's Top 10 before dropping out across the world after around 10 days (though it did surprisingly well in Russia with a 19-day streak... the more you know.)

The release also wasn't aided by the fact that major releases including Clickbait, Memories of a Murderer: The Nilsen Tapes, and The Witcher: Nightmare of The Wolf dropping around the same time.

So... the future doesn't look too good if we're honest. But it ain't over just yet!

The Chair season two has definitely been an open possibility. This isn't listed as a limited show, so with that in mind there was always a considered potential.

We promise to let you know for certain one way or another once anything's been announced.

The Chair season 2 cast: Who's in it?

If season two does get the thumbs up, we'd expect the following to all return: Dr Ji-Yoon Kim (Sandra Oh), Professor Bill Dobson (Jay Duplass), Ju Ju (Everly Carganilla), Professor Joan Hambling (Holland Taylor), Professor Yaz McKay (Nana Mensah), Professor Elliot Rentz (Bob Balaban), and Dean Paul Larson (David Morse), among others.

And there's always an opportunity for some new faces, too.

The Chair season 2 plot: What will happen?

At the end of season one, Ji-Yoon was no longer Chair of the Pembroke English department following a coup by her colleagues. Elliot put himself forward but following a firm "f**k no" from Oh's character, Joan was left in charge, which means she can finally work in an actual office rather than the basement of the campus gym.

With her plate somewhat cleared, that frees up Ji-Yoon to enjoy more one-on-one time with her daughter Ju Ju. The duo have a rocky relationship and we'd expect that to continue in the next chapter as Ju Ju tries to piece together her identity and place in the world.

Meanwhile, Bill turned down the college's settlement offer and is fighting to get his job back. In the meantime, he's going to be doing a spot of babysitting for Ji-Yoon to tide him over.

The duo was back on good terms at the end of The Chair's first outing, but have yet to embrace their romantic connection fully. Bill remains wrapped up in grief following the death of his wife, but his feelings towards Ji-Yoon are far from platonic.

Will she finally surrender and go with her heart rather than her head in season two?

The Chair season 2 trailer: When can I watch it?

First up, we need that all-important renewal before we see any kind of trailer.

If season two does get the greenlight, we'd expect the trailer to arrive in the month leading up to the premiere.

So, as of February 2022, we'd be lucky to see the new season before the end of this year, if it happens at all.

In the meantime, you can enjoy the trailer of season one and get binge-watching again so you're fully up to date when we know more.

The Chair is available now on Netflix.
