The Walking Dead: World Beyond spoilers follow.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond showrunner Matt Negrete has opened up about the gruesome cliffhanger at the end of the spin-off's most recent episode, 'Truth or Dare'.

In the latest instalment of the zombie horror-drama series, which aired in the US on Sunday (November 15), newly-introduced grifter Tony (Scott Adsit) was found bludgeoned to death.

Not only that, but Tony's partner-in-crime Percy (Ted Sutherland) was nowhere to be found, while a bloodied Silas (Hal Cumpston) was found at the scene of the crime too, cowering in the corner of a stall.

After confirming that the body found in the episode was "definitely Tony" – and hinting that things aren't looking good for Percy's fate either – Negrete weighed in on whether Silas, who has a history of violence, might be the one responsible for the episode's bloody cliffhanger.

What to Read Next

"We saw throughout the episode [that] Silas was not too thrilled with how the dynamics shifted once Percy and Tony entered the group," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"I think Silas is someone who has a hard time maybe fitting in with others. He was finally feeling like this was the group where he had his place and he was starting to figure things out. He and Iris were sort of hitting it off.

"Now that Tony and Percy were on the scene, that definitely changed things. During the earlier Truth or Dare game, we saw that Silas opted not to drink. Then at the end there, we see him clutching this open bottle, which could be booze.

"It does look like he likely maybe got a little drunk and freaked out a little bit and maybe did some damage."

Negrete continued to add that "a lot of that will be the discussion of the next episode", and promised that, whatever the truth may be, it will come out "very soon" as the series heads into its final stretch of episodes.

"I think it's everything coming to a head. The final three episodes really deal with this group, what's happened so far and the aftermath," he said.

"I'll say that the first chunk of episodes this season was really about this group finding their groove and coming together, and now we're seeing things really start to fall apart.

"I'll say that relationships will be tested. There are going to be a lot of things about each other that they assume that might not actually be true. We're going to see some riffs between characters that I think are going to be surprising for people."

He also teased that the Civic Republic Military (CRM), the mysterious group that are likely responsible for Rick Grimes's disappearance, will play a big part as it nears its conclusion.

"The CRM will also factor in in a big, big way as we get into this final stretch," Negrete shared.

"Yeah, I'm really excited for people to see it. Next week's episode is really fantastic. The stakes are just getting higher and higher as we ramp up to get into the season."

The Walking Dead: World Beyond airs on Sundays on AMC in the US, and you can stream it on Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
