The West Wing cast are finally reuniting with creator Aaron Sorkin for a very special episode.

Sorkin is organising his first work with the cast in 17 years to benefit Michelle Obama's non-profit organisation When We All Vote to promote voter registration in the US ahead of the 2020 presidential US election.

Sorkin and the cast will be appearing on streaming service HBO Max this autumn for a stage performance of the West Wing season 3 episode 'Hartsfield's Landing', which aired in 2002.

In this episode, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman (Bradley Whitford) was trying to round up votes in the New Hampshire presidential primary in the tiny community of Hartsfield's Landing.

Back at the White House, President Bartlet's (Martin Sheen) chess matches with Communications Director Toby Ziegler (Richard Schiff) and his Deputy Sam Seaborn (Rob Lowe) mirrored the administration's policy towards a rogue China.

The cast returning for this special West Wing event include Whitford, Lowe, Schiff, Sheen, Dulé Hill (Charlie Young), Allison Janney (CJ Cregg) and Janel Moloney (Donna Moss) – with a special appearance from Michelle Obama (via TheWrap).

"Tommy and I are incredibly excited to be getting The West Wing cast back together for this staged reading and to support When We All Vote in their efforts to get all of us involved in this election," Sorkin said.

Perhaps this stage performance will convince Sorkin to make more episodes of the classic political drama, since Rob Lowe previously told Digital Spy that the cast would love to reunite with him.
