Star Wars working on new female-driven TV series for Disney+ from Russian Doll writer

You can never get enough Star Wars and, with the advent of Disney+, new content looks to keep on coming.

Variety is reporting that a new Star Wars series is in the works at the streaming service from Leslye Headland, the co-creator and showrunner of acclaimed Netflix show Russian Doll.

Headland is said to be writing the series and will also serve as the showrunner.

While exact plot details are being kept under wraps, Variety reports that it will be a female-led show that takes place during a different period of the Star Wars timeline than other projects.

Earlier this week, it was also reported that pre-production has already commenced on season three of The Mandalorian.

That's despite the fact the show's second season isn't due to drop until later this year.

According to Variety, creator Jon Favreau has been writing the new episodes "for a while", and the art department has been creating concepts for a couple of weeks.

Last week, Disney + announced how it will be celebrating Star Wars Day on May 4.

The streaming service will premiere a new eight-episode documentary series titled Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, which will let fans go behind the scenes of the Disney + series.

And May 4 will also be the date the final ever episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars premieres.
