Katie Couric may rejoin The Today Show once her contract with CBS News expires later this year.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Couric is planning to leave CBS to front her own syndicated talkshow.

Should Couric reach a syndication agreement with NBC, network execs will apparently ask that the journalist host a series of regular segments on its flagship morning show on a part-time basis, sources told The New York Post's Page Six.

Couric hosted Today with Matt Lauer for more than a decade and anchored NBC's coverage of such major news events as the 2000 Winter Olympics and the 9/11 terrorist attacks before leaving to helm the CBS Evening News in 2006.

When reached for comment, Couric's rep would only confirm that the star is to make a one-time return to the NBC morning show next week.

"Katie and Matt will appear on the Today show together next Wednesday promoting her book (The Best Advice I Ever Got)," the rep said.
