Black Lightning axes original cast member for season 4

Black Lightning star Damon Gupton has confirmed that he has left the series.

The actor has played Inspector Bill Henderson on the CW show since it began two years ago, though revealed on Twitter that he will not appear in the fourth season.

"And that's a wrap," he wrote. "My final night on the set of @blacklightning. In December before X-mas I was told Chief Henderson is not in the plans for season 4 and that I would be let go.

"My [love] to a helluva hard working crew. Big [praise] to cast, writers, producers, staff, CW, WB."

Gupton added: "And special shoutout to all the great [Black Lightning] fans who greet me in the street, airports, restaurants. Your appreciation means the world to me.

"Know that I treasure it. Disappointed I'm not allowed to continue the ride with you but glad we had the time we did."

Black Lightning, which is currently airing its third season, recently tied into the Arrowverse's 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' crossover event, and actor Cress Williams previously expressed his excitement to be involved with other DC shows.

"I was excited [when it was announced], but not, I'd say, surprised because the fans have been wanting this since they announced that we were a show," he said.

Black Lightning airs on Monday nights on The CW in the UK. Netflix airs the show in the UK.
