Pete Davidson has spoken about his recent worrying social media posts while appearing on Saturday Night Live.

The comedian caused concern last month when he posted a message on Instagram in which he said he did not "want to be on this earth anymore".

"I'm doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don't know how much longer I can last," he said. "All I've ever tried to do was help people. Just remember I told you so."

Many of Pete's friends and colleagues rushed to support him and it was later confirmed that he was safe.

Pete spoke about the moment while appearing on the 'Weekend Update' section of SNL this weekend alongside John Mulaney.

"I've been spending time with Pete to try to show him that you can have a life in comedy that is not insane," John said. "A sober, domestic life."

"Yeah, and after observing John's life, I publicly threatened suicide," Pete responded, before adding: "I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't make that joke."

John then turned to him and said: "Look me in the eye. You are loved by many and we are glad you are okay."

After reviewing a Clint Eastwood film called The Mule, Pete then declared: "I didn't mention her once!" before getting a hug from John.

Pete went through a very public break-up with fiancée Ariana Grande in October 2018, after which she referenced him in her hit single 'thank u, next'.
