Just like how Prime Minister Theresa May's leadership can't be challenged for a year after last night's (December 12) confidence vote, Daredevil essentially faces a similar two-year 'ban' due to contractual clauses that came into effect following its axe.

As reported by Variety, part of Netflix's TV deal with Marvel means that if the streaming service were to end any of the series, the shows and characters appearing in them could not appear on any rival platforms for a whole two years.

That would mean that a Daredevil season four could not appear on Disney+ until late 2020, while the return of Jessica Jones in 2019 means that a cameo and/or The Defenders season two would have to wait until 2021 at the earliest.

The publication also states that the Punisher deal was made at a different time, although the specifics of that deal aren't known at the time.

Netflix hasn't announced any renewal news for Jessica Jones and The Punisher beyond their upcoming seasons, although it is highly expected that they will not be picked up again.

As the fourth most popular show across all streaming services, it's not due to a lack of fan interest or critical acclaim that Daredevil was cancelled. Disney's own streaming service is causing all sorts of complications with its content on other platforms, but you can read more about that here.
