We'll be honest, we're still reeling from Netflix's decision to cancel Daredevil at the end of last month – but it looks like we're definitely not alone in that.

Barely a week on from the news of its axing, the show's star Charlie Cox has finally revealed how he's feeling about the decision, admitting that he's "very saddened" that the show's run has been cut short.

“A lot of us really expected to keep going, and I certainly did,” Cox told Entertainment Weekly. “The truth is, I felt like we had a lot of stories to tell, and although I understand [the cancellation], I’m very saddened by that.

"It’s just how business works," he continued, before sharing that it's "weird" to think he may never play the role again.

"These characters mean a lot to people," he added. "It’s weird to think there’s a chance I won’t be playing Matt Murdock ever again. That’s a bizarre feeling, because that character has been such a huge part of my life for the last four and a half years."

Speaking about the role, which he's played across three seasons of the Netflix show since being cast in 2014, Cox continued to say it was a "dream job" for him.

"I loved it. It’s been just the most incredible job for me," he said. "It’s so fun to do. You get to do all the acting obviously, which is great, but then there’s also this really fun physical aspect to it with all the stunts and the fight choreography.”

And while he added that he's absolutely up for reprising the role should the opportunity come his way – Marvel has promised more stories for Daredevil, after all – Cox also remained hesitant about giving away any potential future storylines for the Devil of Hell's Kitchen.

"It’s so new, the news [of the cancellation]," he said. "It’s quite painful for quite a lot of people. I was really excited about the ideas that were talked about for season 4, and I think if I was to speculate about it and it went on the internet, it might not be very helpful to people...

"Anything I say often gets picked up and circulated, and I just want to make sure I don’t give any false hope."
