Cheryl's performance of comeback single 'Love Made Me Do it' on last week's X Factor was not a hit with some fans, who were particularly bemused by a dance move where Cheryl licked her own hand.

But someone who was into the performance was Cheryl's former Girls Aloud bandmate Kimberley Walsh.

Kimberley told Heart Radio that she "felt like a proud mum" watching the controversial performance, which received 15 Ofcom complaints for its raunchy pre-watershed dance routine.

"I like seeing my best friend up there doing her thing," Kimberley said, "and I just felt proud to be honest... I felt like a proud mum."

We're glad someone's sticking up for Cheryl after the singer took to Twitter to complain about the "relentless abuse" she had received after the performance.

She wrote: "This level of relentless abuse should not be tolerated in any walk of life. From my appearance, my body size, and shape... [it] is totally uncalled for.

"I did watch my performance back and I LOVED IT!"

It's also good to see members of Girls Aloud sticking up for each other after Cheryl and Kimberley's former bandmate Nadine Coyle recently stirred up some bad blood.

Nadine was asked if the girls fell out often, and replied: "There was no fallout, no. There was just no friendship to begin with."

Kimberley, ever the peacemaker, said of Nadine's claims: "That's not really true."

In other X Factor news, this weekend's semi-final will guest star ABBA's Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, with the contestants taking on songs from ABBA's back catalogue.

The X Factor airs on ITV.
