There's no doubt that 2016 was rocked by a series of shocking celebrity deaths and will, no doubt, go down in history as such. And among those who died last year are Pete Burns and David Gest – two former Celebrity Big Brother housemates.

So, with the return of the show tonight (January 3), host Emma Willis has revealed to The Sun that she wants Celebrity Big Brother bosses to pay tribute to the show's late stars.

"What a year," she said. "I think it would be really nice if they did pay tribute. Pete Burns was always absolutely brilliant in there. David Gest as well."

Given their prominent place in CBB history, this would be a fitting tribute to both the Dead Or Alive frontman and the American entertainer.

Pete Burns appeared on the show in 2006 and was one of CBB's most controversial stars of all time. He passed away suddenly in October after suffering a "massive cardiac arrest".

Pete was part of a particularly fractious series that saw him, George Galloway and Dennis Rodman in conflict with glamour model Jodie Marsh, comedian Michael Barrymore and the series' eventual winner Chantelle Houghton.
