The X Factor's Emily Middlemas was totally confused by those rumours of a sexy 'staircase romp' with boyfriend Ryan Lawrie… partly because of the word 'romp' itself.

The reality competition's hottest couple have denied X-rated allegations of hooking up inside the X Factor house in the past - but got even more candid with Digital Spy on the Pride of Britain Awards red carpet.

"That was very embarrassing but it's a lot of rubbish," Ryan told us. "It just wouldn't happen and we wouldn't do that anyway!"

"When we saw that story, everyone in the house burst out laughing. It's one of the most ridiculous things in the world," Emily declared.

"Just the word 'romp' I think is hilarious," Ryan quipped, with Emily admitting: "I didn't even know what it meant!

"Honestly, it was one of the most ridiculous things but it did make me a little bit upset. I'm so young and I'm not used to all of this press type of thing.

"It's just weird for me… These things happen, we just have to try to adapt to it really fast because it goes in a click. Yeah, it's mad."

With all of that ickiness behind them, the couple are hard at work rehearsing for Saturday's Girlband vs Boyband theme.

"It's good that we've got each other so we can help each other," Emily admitted. "Sometimes I find songs for Ryan that are good for him. He finds songs for me that are good for me… so it's good to have each other as support."

The X Factor continues this weekend on ITV. The Pride of Britain Awards air on Tuesday on ITV.
