The Jump will undertake a Channel 4-mandated safety review in the wake of high-profile contestant injuries.

Beth Tweddle is recovering from neck surgery following a mishap on the winter sports reality competition, while Rebecca Adlington and Tina Hobley were injured earlier in the series.

Channel 4 told Digital Spy today (February 8): "The Jump is now in its third series and since launch 46 celebrities have taken part successfully.

"Though it is a new course the events have been designed to be no more difficult than in previous years and all contributors have undertaken a rigorous training programme to prepare them for the show.

"All winter sports carry some element of risk but in light of the number of injuries this year, Channel 4 has asked the producers to review safety procedures again to further reduce the prospect of accident."

During last night's edition of The Jump, presenter Davina McCall told viewers that strenuous safety precautions had been taken before each event.

Tweddle tweeted from her hospital bed today to assure fans she is on the mend, having had successful surgery after colliding with a barrier on The Jump.

"Thank you so much for your support and concern," she wrote.

"The last 48 hours have been very scary but all the messages have really helped to keep me positive. I will keep you updated on my progress."

The Jump 2016: Ouch! EVERY injury the celebrities have got so far, from Tina's elbow to Linford's hamstring

Her parents Ann and Jerry issued their own statement: "The early medical indications were positive as Beth was able to move her hands and feet, despite being in a lot of discomfort. The medical staff have been fantastic and explained to us that Beth was waiting for an operation as there were more serious cases ahead of her.

"At 20:00 GMT last night Beth was taken down for surgery where they took a piece of bone from her hip and used it to fuse the two vertebrae that were fractured, along with pinning them together. It was a scary time for all of us and we're just very grateful that the operation was a success."

With only two episodes in the current series having aired so far, Tina Hobley has already bowed out after dislocating her elbow while Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington left after dislocating her shoulder.
