Could the romance be over already?

As Jeremy McConnell became the sixth person to be evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother house, he admitted he needs "time to think" about his controversial relationship with Stephanie Davis.

Asked about the future for the couple, Jeremy said: "I don't know what's going to happen. It's just what it was."

The Irishman ended up going head-to-head with his lover to leave the house, in a week where the pair's relationship has really ramped up.

As a shocked and emotional Stephanie was left inside, Jeremy faced the crowds to a fairly positive reaction. But when it came to his exit interview, it all became a little bit strained.

Jeremy told Emma Willis leaving the house was "like walking out of a two-day party" before going on to try and explain why he had pursued Stephanie, who was in a relationship with model Sam Reece when she entered.

Willis noted the Irishman had "gotten off pretty lightly" compared to the boos Stephanie had received earlier in the evening, but Jeremy said the former Hollyoaks actress "doesn't deserve" to be jeered.

He admitted his flirtation with Stephanie could have contributed to his exit. "Maybe I'm seen as a big bad wolf," Jeremy said, before adding "it takes two to tango".

The 23-year-old understood why John Partridge, Danniella Westbrook and Gemma Collins had nominated him and cited his behaviour with Stephanie as a reason.

"I totally understand their reasons. I had people pulling me up all the time, but you go towards what you feel," he explained. "That's just me though, you like me or hate me and that's the way I live my life. I act on what I feel."

While Willis tried to get to the bottom of how Jeremy feels about Stephanie, the model repeatedly answered he "can't elaborate on that".

Watching a video of the pair together - which he said looked "more like a Hugh Hefner video" - he observed: "That's what we felt for each other."

"If I was on the outside, I'd be able to go somewhere," he continued. "If there's someone you sit with and you have feelings for and you can't go anywhere… It kept getting stronger."

He added: "I can't explain what I feel inside, I can't act differently than I've already done. That's what I felt and I went with it."

Jeremy also appeared contrite with regards to Stephanie's (probably ex-) boyfriend Sam Reece, saying that he knows how hard it must have been to watch.

Asked how he would feel in Sam's situation, Jeremy quickly replied: "I would be gutted. Absolutely gutted."

"I normally have and like to think I have a bit of integrity, but obviously not, like," he added.

Of their future together, Jeremy said: "It's a bubble, it's a different environment out here. She needs breathing space, I need my time as well.

"Being apart it gives both of us time to think. I'm not saying that when she comes out we're going to be together."

He added that Stephanie is "very low on self-esteem" and needs time to think about what she wants. "She hasn't been shown a good side of life. I like to think I'm a good lad, I can treat her with some respect."

So, that's that. With Jeremy gone, how will Stephanie cope in a house with "absolute carrot" Danniella and the other housemates that have criticised her behaviour?

Celebrity Big Brother continues Saturday at 10pm on Channel 5.
