Big Brother spoilers follow.
Big Brother has aired its first eviction of the 22nd series following a dramatic twist in the opening episode in which three housemates were forced to make an impossible decision upon entering the iconic house.
The ITV reality series returned on Sunday (28 September) as 12 contestants began their journey, though Emily Hewertson, Caroline Monk and Sam Ashby were all given a shock as Big Brother revealed they were all vulnerable for eviction.
In tonight's episode, the trio had to head to a secret room as part of the twist, where they were given the unenviable task of voting among themselves, deciding which housemate would be evicted immediately.
Caroline selflessly offered to leave the house to give her younger counterparts the chance to "experience" the full Big Brother journey, with Emily and Sam remarking that it was "just a game".

Though Caroline offered to leave, it was Emily who was evicted after she received two votes, with all three members saying they felt "terrible" after being put in the situation in the first place.
The twist certainly divided fans of the series on social media, with one viewer writing on X: "What kind of questions are they even going to ask at the eviction after a few hours in the house they better not ACTUALLY be evicted.. how silly #bbuk."
"This is actually not fair! First night eviction shouldn’t be a thing! #BBUK" remarked one viewer, with another writing: "Absolutely hate everything about this… night one eviction? back door eviction?? picking who goes themselves, not public vote??? awful."
"#BBUK time! Still livid that they’re doing a night 1 eviction, so unfair to everyone. I already know that Caroline is going to sacrifice herself so the younger people can have an experience. This is worst case scenario," added another fan.

While some viewers lamented the decision to have an elimination on the first night of the series, others theorised that this could set up a potential twist where Emily returns to the show.
"I’m not sure this is a real eviction yano… #bbuk," wrote one fan, with another echoing this sentiment as they remarked: " Why do I feel like Emily hasn’t gone. Her return from a fake eviction looms #BBUK."
Big Brother airs on ITV2 and ITVX from Sundays through Fridays, followed each night by Big Brother: Late & Live.
