Tom Jones has said that the BBC "can go f**k themselves" after axing him from The Voice UK.

The Welsh singer didn't have his contract renewed for next year's run and has been replaced on the coaching panel by Boy George.

"I said, 'I don't give a f**k'," Jones told The Sunday Times about his reaction when his son and manager Mark Woodward informed him of the BBC's decision.

"I enjoyed it, but if they don't want me any more, they can go f**k themselves."

Jones also criticises the BBC in his new memoir Over the Top and Back: The Autobiography.

"What a cold place the BBC is. Sometimes you wonder whether it's run by humans or a machine in the basement," Jones writes.

"[Former BBC managing director Bill Cotton] knew intuitively what makes entertainment work for the British public. Sadly there's not so much of that at the BBC today."

Jones previously revealed that he was told that his contract would not be renewed at the last moment with "no consultation or conversation of any kind".

BBC TV chief Danny Cohen later said he was "truly sorry" that Jones was upset by the manner of his axing and called him a "gentleman" and "extraordinary figure in music".

Paloma Faith, who has replaced Rita Ora on the show, has said that while Jones was saddened by the way his exit has been handled, he would not "lose too much sleep over it" because he has so many other things he can do.

Jones's replacement Boy George has said he had "absolute respect" for the Welsh superstar and called him an "absolute legend".

The Voice UK's co-host Marvin Humes last month posted the first picture of the new coaching lineup, which sees Paloma Faith and Boy George joined by the returning will.i.am and Ricky Wilson.
