Matisse the dog and trainer Jules O'Dwyer won Sunday's final, with just a small percentage separating them and magician Jamie Raven.

However, O'Dwyer only confirmed yesterday (June 1) that Chase - who featured in their semi-final performance - had actually replaced Matisse during an impressive tightrope section.

Ofcom has since received over 300 complaints from viewers, with these still to be assessed before a decision is made whether or not to investigate the show.

Speaking at the Voice of the Listener and Viewer spring conference today (June 2), Broadcast quotes Fincham as saying: "To be absolutely clear, these things are judgment calls that producers make.

"In the semi-final, we made quite clear that the other dog [Chase] played a role. In the audition it was made quite clear."

However, he added: "With hindsight in the final it would have been better if that had been made clear."

Britain's Got Talent producers have apologised for not making the swap "clearer to the judges and the viewers" during the show.

Over 13 million viewers saw Matisse and O'Dwyer triumph, winning £250,000 and a slot at the Royal Variety Performance.
