Celebrity Big Brother has been hit with over 1,000 complaints following "unacceptable behaviour" from Mickey Rourke.

The actor was forced to leave the reality show over the weekend following a controversial stint in the house when he received backlash over his behaviour towards fellow contestant JoJo Siwa and co-host AJ Odudu.

Rourke was eventually told to exit the house after "further use of inappropriate language and instances of unacceptable behaviour" towards Chris Hughes and Ella Rae Wise.

Ofcom has now confirmed it received 1,010 complaints over the 9 April episode, in which Rourke was scolded for using homophobic terminology towards Siwa.

The show also received 78 complaints about the 7 April launch episode, in which Rourke was called out by fans for pulling Odudu close to him and looking her up and down, to which she replied: "Stop looking at me!" The 10 April episode also received 52 complaints.

Digital Spy has reached out to ITV for comment.

Earlier this week, the show aired the circumstances around Rourke's exit, which began during a pirate-themed task in which he clashed with Hughes and was called to the Diary Room for a chat around his behaviour.

After returning and apologising, Wise noted a sexual comment Rourke made towards her earlier in the day that made her "feel very uneasy".

He later returned to the Diary Room, where he was told: "This language has caused offence to your fellow housemates and could cause offence to the viewing public. This is not the first time Big Brother has had to speak to you about your offensive and inappropriate language."

After apologising, Big Brother said his language and behaviour were "seriously unacceptable" and asked him to leave.

Elsewhere, the show has been called out by some fans for airing a sensitive moment for Siwa after she and Hughes were told off for a rule break.
